For those who embrace technology, and for those who hear about it passively on the news, in pop culture references, and in everyday conversation, 2009 will probably be known for the Twitter explosion. More than Myspace and Facebook, Twitter is now the preferred method the general population uses to keep in touch and let others know what they are up to. Follow someone on Twitter, and in 140 characters or less you will know where they are, what they're doing, when they blew their noses, if they're stuck in traffic, etc. While most of the world should care less, the phenomenon is unavoidable. Whether you thought it was trite or progress when the Pope decided to send text prayers to the masses, Twitter has brought it to a whole new level. We can follow everyone from our friends to celebrities, and not have to wait for letters and gossip rags to find out what everyone is doing in the world. ![]() Well, to celebrate Twitter users, and honor those who generate the best content via Twitter over the course of a year, the 2010 Shorty Awards are just around the corner. Ranging in personal categories from advertising and innovation to humor and the weird. In the Community categories, there is everything from lgbt to gaming to steampunk and even sexiness. I started my first Twitter account back in 2008, and back then I saw it as something that was neat, and would either explode in popularity, or quietly fall by the wayside to be replaced by some other neat little method of communication. Since then, not only has twitter become ubiquitous, but it has been used to do more than tell people who's doing what that no one else cares about. Twitter has been used to inform people of accidents, changes in business, and even when there's a new batch of rolls coming out of the oven at your local bakery. If you have a favorite Twitter personality and enjoy the content created, head on over to the Shorty Awards and vote today! |
